Hitmakers podcast was born out of three things: my new book of the same name, the work we did at Banana Republic and Esprit, and my conversations with Rei Inamoto, a creative entrepreneur and the marketing industry legend.

Hitmakers is a great, if not an original name. I chose it as my book title because I wanted to capture how some things burst on the cultural scene, demand our attention, and become part of enduring cultural language. A lot of those things come from brands.

At the brands I led marketing and creative for, we organized our work around influencing culture. We created cultural products, defined a signature brand aesthetic, created brand codes, built creative worlds and product portfolios, collaborated, curated, revived the archives … and amplified it all through media.

Through these actions, we influenced culture.

Hitmakers podcast is a journey through brand work, creative inspiration, strategic ideas and technologies. For this journey, one cannot have a better companion than Rei, a cultural influencer, creative entrepreneur and American Advertising Federation’s The Hall of Achievement honoree, who has created some of the most recognizable experiences for brands like Nike, Google, Xbox, Audi, Asics, Pokemon and Uniqlo.

Every two weeks, Rei and I will talk about brands making a dent in culture — through their products, aesthetics, content, business models or technology — and unpack how they did it.

Listen to the first few episodes below, new ones drop every other Thursday!
